We believe that content on the Internet can thrive supported by multiple business models — including content available only via subscription” the company said in a document to the Newspaper Association of America.

New system will allow to charge visitors from penny to several dollars using Google Checkout and other payment platforms within a year.
It is interesting if model will work, publishers who will begin charge readers for content are risking to loose all their readers. At the same time it could be a new way to save many publishers who are trying to find new business model and create revenue.
Google model does not seems like new, some publishers already charge readers to for old content and archives. There are many blog platforms and plugins which allow to charge visitors for specific posts and content.
