People love us on Yelp sticker
Internet changed consumer behavior in recent years. Today many shoppers prefer to make little online research about product or services. Blogosphere, online forums, business networks, and social media websites like Yelp make it easy to find reviews, compliments, or complaints about businesses.
As many marketers would say that “bad publicity is better than no publicity” but what if your business is slammed with bad reviews from unhappy customers. Many business owners will agree that if you have 10 happy customers and 1 unhappy… you’ll defiantly hear in the future from unhappy customer. Type business name on Google and if #2 result is a scam report it meant that this business is definitely losing some leads and sales.
There are several ways to improve publicity and the best way you can do is organically move bad reviews down in search engine results. But remember, it is not the best practice to write fake reviews and spam social networks. There are hundreds good ways to improve publicity and show value of your business or product.
- You can’t give the cheapest price but you have the best location, your product is not the best but you offer outstanding customer service and support, you support local community, or you are the only one who sells specific product or service. Show the value proposition of your business.
- Stay connected with your regular customers. Create profiles in social networks and find satisfied customers who use them. Don’t hesitate to contact them and add to your network or friend list. Let them write their story about your business or product.
- Some social networks allow people to reply for comments and reviews. Use this options to write apology and negotiate with unsatisfied customer. Be nice and professional to show that you really care and willing to help. Don’t offer discount or money back right away because it can attract other people to give bad reviews.
- Everything you do online can appear the top of search engine results when people type your business name on search engines. Your online activity and web presence move negative reviews down in search results. It is always good to use online press release distribution services like PrWeb, create social profiles (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Yelp), write articles, and create blog about your business.
- Don’t hide your face. Post photos and videos from your corporate events, parties, and meeting. Show that there are real people who run the business and work to provide products and services.
Avoid:
- Fake reviews and posts on social sites is not good business practice and can actually hurt business and reputation. Firstly, people are not stupid and they “smell rat” reading that business provide “outstanding services and cheapest prices to satisfy customers across New England” from “Yelper” with single 5 star review. Secondly, many social networks ban companies who are trying to cheat. Thirdly, post like “don’t trust this guys because everything you read is fake” will ruin your reputation completely. Yelp and other social sites have policy not to remove any reviews and it could stay for years.
Here something to think about: Plastic Surgery company pays $300 000 in fines for fake reviews online
