Facebook Twitterification… Facebook Lite Goes Live.

Facebook released Facebook Lite version which allow users to see quick and simple updates from their friends and post information. It was made for users with slow internet connection and available in United States and India. Yes, lite version looks like Twitter with quick links on top which allow people to post photo, video, or update status. To access Facebook Lite you need to follow: www.lite.facebook.com.

It is another step to move forward and compete with Twitter. Facebook already introduced live status updates, status tagging, and bought Friend Feed.

Research Reveals: More than 50% Adults in United States Use Social Sites

USA Today and Boston Globe reported that more than half adults use at least 1 social networking website.

 According USA Today and Forrester Research, the greatest increase of social media usage happened among adults between 35 to 54 years old, where participation has grown more than 60%. Boston Globe wrote that over 50% adults belong to social networking sites but don’t use it quite often.

Search Engine or Social Media Traffic for Small Business. Which One is Better?

There are a lot of buzz in web community about web traffic from social media sites like Twitter, Digg, or Facebook. Many suggest that social media will replace traditional search engines. Really? We know that there are a lot of stories about some 17 year old kids who sells music through YouTube videos but it doesn’t mean that YouTube is a perfect market place for 50 year old business owner who can sell napkins, pens, boat trailers, or anything else. There are some exceptions like Blendtec which sold a thousands blenders after producing Will it Blend? viral videos but still, can every business use social media? 

Let’s analyze traffic you are getting from social sites and search engines like Google, Yahoo, or Bing. Searching for product or service people often type specific keywords and visit several websites to make a choice. Company which provides product or service for competitive price have a big chance to turn visitor into customer.

Gap Ditches TV for Facebook to Promote New Jeans Line

Gap, clothing retailer, decides to switch advertising strategy by moving from TV to Facebook. Now, Gap ads across social media drive consumers to “Born to Fit” Facebook page which contain product information and videos to promote new line of jeans. iPhone application was also created to support campaign.
